- Do I need a visa to visit St. Croix?
- If you are a citizen of the United States, or if you are able to visit the United States, then you need no further documentation to visit St. Croix, a US Territory.
- How do I get to St. Croix?
- There are several flights daily in and out of St. Croix. Most are American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta or US Airways -- with non-stops from multiple US cities.
- Can I rent a car? If so, how much is it?
- Yes, there are rental car options at the airport, and there is an Avis within walking distance of the Stone House, and a Thrifty up the street. Prices vary according to season. $200-$350/week. Given the proximity of the rental car agencies to the Stone House, you might consider only renting a car on the day(s) that you wish to wander from the beach. Taxis can take you to and from the airport, or our concierge service can plan to meet and greet you (for a small extra fee - contact us for more information).
- Can I rent for less than a week (long weekend)?
- Yes. Nightly rates vary. Please contact us.
- Is there a discount for a long stay?
- Definitely. The longer you stay, the lower the rates. Please contact us for more information.
- We have 6 in our party. Will the two people sleeping the Stone House TV Room have privacy?
- They will have some privacy. While they may close the room's doors, they must enter one of the other bedrooms in order to use those en-suite bathroom facilities. Also, guests in the second bedroom must pass through the TV Room in order to get to their own bedroom and bath. See the floorplan.
- Is there a computer we may use?
- No, but there is wireless internet access, so your laptop will have instant and easy access to the internet from anywhere on or near the property. (Please make sure that your laptop has capacity for wireless.) It even works on the beach!
- Why must we pay a security deposit?
- Since a percentage of the proceeds go to Aidchild, we feel an additional responsibility to protect the children's interests in case of theft, damage or other loss of their property. Remember that the deposit is completely refundable when there has been no loss or damage (which is most often the case).
- Do the proceeds really help orphans living with AIDS?
- Yes, fifty percent of the proceeds are given to Aidchild, an organization well-known for generating much of its own income in its very special efforts to care for orphans living with AIDS in East Africa. The other fifty percent is used to maintain the homes, and to compensate the hosts.
- Will my cell phone work in St. Croix?
- Most likely, yes. We use Sprint and T-Mobile without roaming charges.
- Are there international long-distance charges when calling the Virgin Islands from the US?
- No. When calling a US Virgin Islands number from the mainland United States, you are charged only normal long-distance, like calling state-to-state. The same is true when calling the mainland from here.
- What's the time difference in St. Croix?
- St. Croix is in the Atlantic Time Zone. This is the same as Eastern Time except that Atlantic does not go on daylight savings time, meaning that we are the same as the east coast except in winter when we are one hour later.
- How much is a taxi from the airport?
- To the Stone House: about $15 for two people. Additional persons are charged a bit more. Taxis here are large vans, so you'll all fit in one. To the Deck House: about $25 for two people.
- What is the nearest airport?
- There is only one airport on our small island. The airport code is STX.
- How can I do laundry?
- There are several Laundromats on island, and even those that provide drop off service. BUT REMEMBER, this is island life, so everyone wears shorts, tank-tops, sundresses, wraps and swimming suits. Just light and simple - all the time. Easy to pack a lot.
- Is the tap water drinkable, or should I stop and buy bottled water on my way from the airport?
- No, tap water is not drinkable. All tap water on island is rain water harvested into cisterns, so it is not potable. (There is no fresh water on island.)
- Is there a ferry from St. Croix to St Thomas?
- Yes, call 340-775-7292 for more info. There is also a Seaplane service from Christiansted's boardwalk to St Thomas. No airports, just beach-to-beach service. See www.seaborneonline.com.
